Our Mission

Financial fluency is not a privilege.
It is a skill anyone can learn.

57%of Americans are invested in the stock market, but only 14% feel confident they understand how it works. (Gallup, 2023)
3xhigher long-term wealth accumulation among households with structured financial literacy, controlling for income. (Lusardi and Mitchell, 2014)
$0The cost of Lesson 1. The first step toward financial fluency should never have a paywall in front of it.

I grew up watching my parents build something from nothing. They came from Nigeria with drive, discipline, and a belief that the next generation would go further. They were right. But there was one thing I had to figure out largely on my own: how money actually works, how to grow it, and how to make it work for me the way it works for people who grew up already knowing.

That learning curve is the whole reason Compound exists. I built the course I wished I had found years earlier, one that takes the subject seriously, builds in the right order, and assumes you are intelligent but simply have never been taught this.

The wealth gap in this country is, in large part, a knowledge gap. California recently mandated financial literacy in every public high school and signed executive orders expanding wealth-building access for women. A long overdue acknowledgment that the information itself has always been the barrier, and that closing it changes what is possible across generations.

Compound is my contribution to that. Free to start, rigorous throughout, and built for anyone who is ready to close the gap for themselves and their family.

The Science

Every design decision
is backed by research.

Compound is not just a course. Every structural choice, from the order of concepts to the way feedback is delivered, is grounded in peer-reviewed learning science.

Anchored Instruction

Every concept is introduced through a concrete real-world scenario before the abstraction is named. The Cognition and Technology Group at Vanderbilt documented that this approach consistently produces deeper comprehension and better transfer to new problems than definition-first instruction.

CTGV, 1990 · Bransford et al., 2000

Cognitive Load Theory

Working memory holds roughly four items at once (Cowan, 2001). Each screen in Compound presents exactly one idea. Presenting a hook, cards, quiz, and simulator simultaneously would cause cognitive overload and eliminate retention. Every step is isolated to its own screen.

Sweller, 1988 · Cowan, 2001

Spaced Repetition

Without active retrieval, 70% of new information is lost within 24 hours (Ebbinghaus, 1885). Every lesson's second quiz question reaches back to a prior lesson, forcing retrieval at expanding intervals. This is the mechanism behind all durable long-term memory formation.

Ebbinghaus, 1885 · Roediger and Karpicke, 2006

The Generation Effect

Struggling to produce an answer encodes memory significantly deeper than passive reading (Slamecka and Graf, 1978). Card fronts in Compound never show the concept name. The friction of deducing the answer from the problem is the entire point.

Slamecka and Graf, 1978 · Bjork, 1994

High-Value Corrective Feedback

Generic "incorrect" responses create zero new neural pathways. Each wrong-answer option in Compound has its own targeted feedback that validates the reasoning behind the mistake, isolates the structural flaw, and redirects to the correct mental model.

Hattie and Timperley, 2007

Emotion as Memory Anchor

The amygdala prioritizes emotionally significant events for long-term storage. Information wrapped in mild surprise, tension, or awe is recalled 2 to 3 times better than neutral data. Prudie's moments of revelation are engineered memory anchors placed at the peak of each lesson.

Cahill and McGaugh, 1998
